About Aztec At Aztec, our goal is to add privacy to Ethereum. In the current public blockchain paradigm, users and entities unknowingly broadcast data in the public, compromising privacy and security to get trustlessness. Not only are unencrypted blockchains inherently privacy-exposing, they require significant redundancy to compute and verify the legitimacy of transactions. Implementing scalable encryption in a public blockchain paradigm requires cutting-edge math and engineering. Thankfully, our team of scientists and engineers invented Plonk, the industry-standard zkSNARK, and Noir, the universal language of zero knowledge. Now, we’re building a first of its kind Layer 2 with private smart contracts. This requires new cryptographic primitives, a zero-knowledge DSL for writing contracts, a privacy-friendly execution environment, a carefully designed set of circuits that prove the validity of the chain to L1, a decentralized block-building and proving mechanism, and a top-tier user and developer experience. And it’s now time to bring it to market. We’ve raised $125 million from industry-leading investors including a16z crypto, Paradigm, Variant, Consensys, and a_capital, and we’re growing quickly. The Role We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer with deep Linux expertise and a passion for building developer-centric tooling. You’ll work closely with our CTO and engineering teams to enhance our internal infrastructure, CI systems, and productivity pipelines. This is a hands-on, high-impact role - ideal for someone who thrives on owning the tools that engineers rely on every day. What You’ll Do
Take ownership of Aztec’s custom CI system and internal build tools. Enhance and build CI dashboards to improve observability of engineering workflows. Harden CI infrastructure using least privilege principles and robust sandboxing. Implement productivity enhancements across C++, Rust, Solidity, and TypeScript build systems. Investigate and resolve low-level bugs related to Linux processes, signals, memory, and IPC. Collaborate face-to-face during your ramp-up phase in our London office. Optionally grow into a leadership role as the internal infrastructure team expands.
💡 Explore our CI system in action: http://ci.aztec-labs.com and the code here. About You You might be a great fit if you:
Prefer scripting custom Bash over fighting YAML in legacy CI systems. Experience with cgroups, kernel namespaces, virtual memory, /proc, and tracing syscalls. Extensive experience with terraform and AWS cloud infrastructure. Know Docker intimately, from minimizing image sizes to how it leverages kernel features. Have experience maintaining complex software stacks and CI systems at scale. Are comfortable with debugging process groups, signals, and build failures at the OS layer. Take pride in building secure, reliable, and fast developer infrastructure.
What We Offer:
Flexible, remote-first culture with HQ in London. Competitive salary + equity/token options. 25 days annual leave + bank holidays. Health, dental, and retirement benefits (based on location). Quarterly offsites for team collaboration and bonding. Conference and learning budget for continual professional development.
A chance to work on truly cutting-edge zero-knowledge infrastructure with some of the best minds in the field.Aztec Labs is an equal opportunity employer and we value creativity, ersity, and intellectual curiosity. Why We’re Hiring For This Role
Float’s infrastructure has grown rapidly, meaning more customers, more complex systems, and more opportunities to build for scale. As the scale of our systems increases, we’re growing our SRE team to match. You’ll be the third site reliability engineer, and will be working alongside our QA team. This role is about stepping into a high-impact space: helping us automate smarter, improve visibility across engineering, and ensure reliability as we scale. You’ll join a team that’s laying the groundwork for stronger SLAs and an even better experience for our customers.
This role will report into Chris, our Team Lead for SRE & QA. Check out this video where he explains the important role you will play within our SRE team. Watch this video!
You’ll be working asynchronously with a bright, dedicated team from across the globe, with a strong focus on taking complex problems and creating solutions that feel simple and intuitive for our customers.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Early on, you’ll jump right into:

- Service integration: Partner with engineers to configure services within our clusters and support service migrations where possible.
- Kubernetes optimisation: Review and optimise usage across Kubernetes services, including right-sizing scale node specifications.
Once you are a bit more settled, we expect that you will jump into the following projects:
- Service mesh & ingress security: Lead our exploration and implementation of service mesh options and harden ingress layers to defend against spam and abuse.
- Incident response playbooks: Define and roll out standardised playbooks to improve clarity and speed during production incidents.
- CDC layer support: Build deep familiarity with our next-gen data layer (CDC) to support new teams building on top of it.
- SLO coaching & support: Help teams define, measure, and meet reliability goals—enabling engineering to own quality into production and drive better outcomes for customers.
What You’ll Need To Be Successful
We want you to love your work and believe that these skills will allow you to succeed in the role. Applying these skills requires:
- Bash + programming language: Confident writing scripts in Bash and proficient in at least one go-to language (ideally PHP, NodeJS, or Python).
- Kubernetes: Strong production experience managing and optimising Kubernetes clusters.
- Terraform: Solid understanding of infrastructure as code using Terraform.
- GCP: Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, or eagerness to get up to speed quickly.
- Iteration mindset: You believe in shipping value early and improving over time, not chasing one-shot perfection.
- Written communication: You write clearly and concisely, whether it's documenting infrastructure, proposing changes, or sharing learnings across teams.
Our SRE growth framework details the key competencies and expectations needed for this role. Take a look at the Level 2 column to learn more about what you’ll need to be successful in the role, in addition to the technical skills outlined above.
As a fully remote team, we’re looking for someone comfortable with asynchronous communication as the default, which means you have previous remote experience and are comfortable using tools like Slack, Loom, and Linear to communicate as needed. About the Company
Relay Commerce is an e-commerce enablement platform offering scaling solutions across personalized messaging, social commerce, and customer retention, helping merchants navigate the rapidly evolving digital landscape with a comprehensive suite of tools. The Relay suite of solutions currently drives more than $1 billion in aggregate incremental gross merchandise volume for more than 35,000 merchants.
The Relay ecosystem currently consists of eight software products that accelerate merchant revenue growth through email marketing automation, on-page conversion optimization, user generated content management, retention analytics, and subscription management. Relay’s suite of products are established as key revenue generation tools for innovative e-commerce merchants worldwide.
About the Role
Engineering Managers at Relay are accountable for the technical and delivery output of the engineering teams they help run. The role is split into three pillars; people, product and technical leadership.
Collaborating widely with all appropriate stakeholders, you will help our teams ship great work that really matters to our customers, to a high technical standard.
Engineering Managers must be exceptional technical communicators; you must be able to understand, articulate and explore potential features and technical challenges.
**
Primary Responsibilities**- Being accountable for delivery across the teams that you manage; ensuring teams are working at an effective, sustainable pace.
- Ensuring that your team members are performing at (or reach) a high bar of technical ability. You are accountable for the performance and growth of the engineers on your teams.
- Partner with both product and technical team members to help define, communicate and prioritize upcoming work. This involves a lot of communication and technical writing.
- Lead two teams of between 6-10 engineers in total, and support, coach and develop them with regular 1:1’s and continuous feedback.
- Remember the human; realize each team member has their own perspectives, needs, wants, challenges and frustrations. Work to understand them - and help them grow - as iniduals.
- Maintain your technical knowledge; although you will never be working in the “line of delivery”, you should plan to spend 10-20% of your time working on technical tasks on the products that you oversee.
- Provide actionable insights into how to approach larger technical tasks – although you defer to team members first.
- Partner with the Head of Engineering; working closely with them to deliver company-wide policies, objectives, processes and standards.
**
Important Traits for Success**- Comfortable with ambiguity; larger objectives rarely start fully-formed. You will have a high degree of autonomy to help us clearly define those objectives.
- Team-oriented; You measure your success by the achievements and growth of those you lead. You “play well with others”. You trust your team to solve problems; you give clear guidance and then “let go of the vine” and let them deliver.
- Strategic thinker; You can balance immediate needs with a long-term vision, ensuring sustainable product growth.
- Outcome-focused; You assess outcomes, not processes. You guide teams towards making the highest impact.
- Strong sense of ownership; You do what needs to be done for success; you take pride in your work and are committed to delivering high-quality, impactful solutions.
**
Required Expertise**- You are expected to have recently worked in a hands-on role at a senior level. Whilst you will not be working on features or bugs off a teams backlog (i.e. not part of their velocity), you are expected to develop and maintain a high level of technical knowledge about the applications your team members work on.
**
Technical**- Significant, proven, senior-level experience with full-stack JavaScript frameworks, working across both frontend and backend systems. Our guidance is 7+ years at senior level.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL or other RDBMS.
- Experience with observability tools, their value and how best to use them e.g. using the Golden Signals.
- Previous experience working in e-commerce.
- Highly desirable: Experience running containers on AWS/GCP (and experience with cloud infrastructure platforms as a whole).
- Highly desirable: Experience with e-commerce marketplaces such as Shopify and WooCommerce.
**
Leadership**- Proven experience growing, leading and managing engineering team members.
- Able to provide input on, understand and challenge engineering decisions.
- Natural ability to inspire and motivate a team.
**
Product**- Delivery experience; you have defined and shipped major initiatives as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; you can write clear and succinct explanations of technical topics for a variety of audiences.
**
Education**- Highly desirable: Bachelors or Masters degree
**
The Interview Process**- Initial call (30 minutes). You’ll speak with our People team, who will ask about your previous roles & experience leading engineering team members. They’ll be able to help you understand Relay as a company, too, and check you meet our minimum requirements.
- First round (30 minutes) - You’ll speak with the Head of Engineering, briefly discussing your previous roles and experience again. They’ll be interested to hear examples from your previous experience about how you’ve shaped the products you’ve worked on, and how you’ve shipped complex things.
- Technical assessment (variable, and up to you) - We would like you to demonstrate your senior level of technical experience; we do have a take home assessment, which is our default for all engineering team members at Relay - but you tell us how you would like us to assess you here.
a) Providing us code samples / open source work you’ve done in the past is an option, as is a live pairing exercise on a call, using your tools, environment and language.
- Second round(1 hour) - You’ll meet with our Chief Technology Officer and Head of Engineering, and discuss your technical assessment first (we might even ask you how you prefer to assess engineering ability during interviews!) and then move on to more specific questions about your skills and experience in technical areas.
- Third round (1 hour) - You’ll meet with our Chief Executive Officer, Ricardo Hinds, who (at present) leads our Product function across all Relay BU’s - and perhaps another leadership team member. They will focus primarily on your ability to set teams up with clear guidance on what to build (and why it’s important), but you should expect other, more general questions here too.
**
Benefits & Perks**- Work From Home Stipend
- Therapy/Mental Health Reimbursement
- Paid Parental Leave
- Flexible Time Off
- Annual Company Offsite
- Co-working Space Allowance
- Company Swag
