Projects You Will Work On

You will be working on our backend, a REST API written using modern Java practices.

This is a high-impact role. We are looking for someone to take real ownership of one or two core features within six months. You will own some extremely important parts of our application that serve thousands of customers.

You will work closely with the backend and frontend team and our CTO.

We prioritize our projects based on what customers are requesting the most.

Some things that you might work on include:

• Data: Scale our real-time data discovery engine to process 5x-10x more volume
• DevOps: Speed up our CI pipeline for faster builds
• Integrations: Add features to and revamp our Salesforce integration
• Monitoring: Modernize our logging and metrics infrastructure
• Reporting: Add functionality to allow customers to run advanced custom usage reports

Hiring Process

Our process is as follows:

1. Initial screening (60 min): Complete an asynchronous questionnaire and a relevant coding challenge
2. CTO Interview (30 min): A call with our CTO to delve into your experiences and discuss the projects we’re working on
3. Live coding session (3 hours): Collaborate on a problem with our team in real-time

Right now, we are on the lookout for a talented Java Engineer to join our Elasticsearch team. You will be working on areas of Elasticsearch that primarily deal with ingesting large volumes of data and the management of that data once indexed. For example, Index Lifecycle Management, Data Streams, and the Ingest Pipelines are all part of data management. You can work fully remote from your home or (almost) anywhere in the world.

What you will be doing:

• Evolving and creating new features in Elasticsearch
• Designing and implementing new horizontally-scalable features and APIs in Elasticsearch
• Understanding and contributing to surrounding layers such as replication and search
• Optimizing internal data structures used within Elasticsearch
• Tackling difficult issues, including performance or concurrency issues, and proposing solutions
• Collaborating in the open with the Elasticsearch team, Elastic Stack users, and other supporting open source projects
• Partnering with our support engineers on the harder problems

What you bring along:

• You are highly proficient in Java, conversant in the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs, as well as newer features like lambdas.
• Experience troubleshooting complex issues.
• A high level of autonomy. The distributed nature of the company offers freedom to work when and how you see fit, but also requires team members to work independently, and reach out for help when stuck.
• Experience working with large volumes of data in noSQL datastore(s).

We are looking for a PHP developer with mobile / Flutter development experience, to join our team and help us continue to improve our web and mobile apps.

You should love managing complexity in elegant ways, and creating beautiful user interfaces that hide that complexity in the backend. The product is mature, but is constantly evolving / adapting based on new use-cases and user feedback.

About the role:

You will be join a small but effective team, as our 5th dev team member. You'll receive training on the stack, platform and flows within the software. Gym management might not sound complicated, however there is a lot of complexity hidden behind our shiny UI, as we account for many different use-case that you likely have never considered as part of running a gym. Regardless of your past experience, we believe this will be a worthy challenge.

About the team:

Gymdesk is a small and effective team (currently 12 people). We don't have office politics and try to minimize the amount of interruptions you will have to deal with. We are a remote team that communicates mostly through slack and video chats as needed. We use Github to manage our repos, tickets and sprints.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of demonstrated professional experience with the PHP stack (language, frameworks, open-source libraries, web servers)

• A growth mindset. You want to challenge yourself to grow as a developer and inidual contributor and take on new responsibilities and acquire new skills.

• Solid experience with web technologies including HTML5, CSS, vanilla Javascript and jQuery

We are Harley Therapy - established in 2006, and well-known as London's premium mental therapy providers. We have a team of highly experienced psychotherapists, clinical and counselling psychologists and psychiatrists in central London. We also run the Harley Therapy Platform, which is the UK’s leading mental therapy platform with therapists practising from their own rooms UK-wide.

We are a small team with big ambitions, and we are looking for a mid-level developer with equally strong skills in Ruby and JavaScript, and multi-year experience with Ruby, Rails, JavaScript, and CSS.

We use islands of JS and React, but experience with React is not necessary, as a good developer with good JS skills will be able to pick it up quickly. We like to use the right tool for the job, and only reach for React when the UI and UX will benefit.

This is a full time position, working remotely (GMT~5) to help improve all our software and websites, and in one case, help us rebuild the administrative system that helps our amazing admin team to manage clients and therapists.

You will have a hand in everything, and as we are a very small team, and you will also have a say in everything related to the technology side of the company. This also means that you will be expected to take responsibility for the entire stack from server to client. It will be common for you to be asked to build a new feature, right the way through from spec, UI, server, client, and of course deployment (we host on Heroku, with PostgreSQL, Sidekiq).
