OVERVIEW:

A client of Scalable Path is expanding its educational web application into the private sector, and it needs help improving the quality and performance of its existing application. This involves creating automated tests, implementing logging, and improving the dev team's practices.

The client is a Canadian company that has an existing web application that helps young students learn French as a second language.

A core challenge they are facing is getting their Unity 3D WebGL application that runs well on desktop to work reliably on Android and iOS. Specific examples include stabilizing a 3rd party whiteboard feature that is not working properly and getting the application to run consistently in browsers on modern versions of the iPhone and iOS.

The application uses Spring Boot on the back-end and React on the front-end. Additionally they are using OpenVidu and WebRTC.

We’re looking for a senior generalist software engineer with expertise in backend and/or native app development, and interest in systems architecture and IoT.

In this role, you’ll work on a variety of client projects to find cost-effective, high-quality, pragmatic solutions to complex problems. Responsibilities will include:

• Crafting technical architecture plans through interfacing with clients to understand product requirements
• Developing and optimizing technical solutions while keeping in mind performance, scalability, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness
• Participating in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to teammates and ensuring adherence to best practices
• Contributing to project success by keeping a close eye on team velocity, project scope, budget, and timeline
• Negotiating with clients to align project scope with budget and timeline, if needed

• You have 5+ years of professional experience.
• You have experience with shipping services into production, and maintaining their quality.
• You have experience with developing database-backed web applications.
• You are proficient in one or more high-level languages.
• You are self-managed and capable of making effective decisions.
• You care about building maintainable, efficient, clean code.
• You speak and write well. We’re a distributed team so we’re extra mindful about communication.
• You are willing to master Golang and/or Elixir, our primary languages for writing Semaphore.
• You are proficient with following TDD/BDD practices for implementing new features.
• You have experience with taking responsibility for projects end-to-end from idea to completion.
• You have experience with Linux and the command line.
