A large part of our success hinges on us being able to adopt many of the technical CI/CD wonders from engineering and leveraging them via non-technical user interfaces. So your job is also one of the artful craft in tuning a form, button, dropdown, sort, filter and label, to the degree one would not need to on other B2B applications - and we are not shy to apply a fair amount of B2C glitter to achieve this. 

Once an image is extracted, cleaned, enhanced and styled it is uploaded to our CDN and our customer can use it manually from here. We’ll also offer native integrations that allow them to sync images automatically. However, we assume there is a real need to allow access to the live images in different environments; a plugin/extension for e.g. Zendesk, to see Support folks easily reply to a ticket with a linked image, is a likely path of ours.

What You’ll Be Responsible For**

You'll join a small squad of engineers taking ownership of both our core components as well as value-added services - those that provide the stickiness that allow customers to use Float to the fullest extent and meld well with other existing processes and systems.

As a Senior Engineer within our Applications Division, you’ll develop and maintain features that help power over 80,000 customers using Float. Your work will ensure the reliability of these services, implementing new features to take them to the next level as well; you will also be involved in the discussions and practicalities of scaling our back-end systems to support an ever-growing customer base.

You’ll be designing and implementing services to support the development of new features across our web, mobile, and desktop app products -- for example, surfacing aggregate data in a performant way or initiating scheduled jobs.

Our modern SaaS platform integrates with several third-party business tools, and you will be responsible for maintaining and building out these integrations with the help of REST and GraphQL APIs from Google, Microsoft, Jira, Linear, and more.

What You’ll Need To Be Successful**

You’ll come to Float with a strong command of Node.js and a proven track record of successfully developing, maintaining, and implementing production services using JavaScript or TypeScript.

You’ll certainly be familiar with messaging architectures and likely have used RabbitMQ & Redis or similar to support scalable, reliable message delivery. We would expect the successful candidate to display most, if not all, of the following:

• Node.js proficiency in a production environment
• A strong command of MySQL and MongoDB
• Experience with microservices-based architecture
• Experience with serverless architecture (Cloud Run and App Engine in particular)
• Experience developing integrations with third-party APIs

• Familiarity with implementing e-commerce solutions is a plus
• Aptitude to quickly learn new languages and technologies as necessary

Title: Linux Software Engineering Manager – Ubuntu

Location: Home based – Worldwide

We are scaling the Ubuntu Foundations Team which delivers the essential components of Ubuntu – our system startup, compilers, language runtimes and toolchains, as well as networking and storage config and management – and we are hiring engineering managers to enable that growth. These are highly technical management roles which require deep knowledge of the core of a Linux server system.

As an Engineering Manager on the Foundations team, you must be passionate about the future of Ubuntu, mindful of the dynamics of the open source ecosystem, and equally aware of the needs of enterprise technologists. You will work closely with product managers to define and deliver the Ubuntu roadmap.

Your primary responsibility is to your team: helping them grow as engineers, do important and satisfying work, and have a great time while doing it. Technical leadership experience and a background in software engineering are necessary prerequisites for this role. You will be expected to lead, challenge, and develop strong engineers, positively influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your team on strategy and execution.

Valued skills and experience

• Deep knowledge of Debian/Ubuntu architecture
• Good understanding of Debian packaging policy, tools and techniques
• High quality software engineering with in-depth knowledge of C/C++ and Python
• Engagement with open source communities and processes
• Experience in one or more of: Linux system architecture, boot process, Java/GCC/Python/Rust/Go toolchains, ARM and/or RISC-V
• Experience managing software developers with a track record of planning, delivery and quality
• A love of developing and growing people and a track record of doing it
• Experience working in an agile development environment
