The Founding Team

Ka Ling Wu, Co-founder & CEO of Upsolve AI, led product solution development at nPlan, a Series A AI & Construction tech startup, before founding Upsolve. Her tenure at nPlan focused on client expansion. Prior to that, she spent four years at Palantir where she managed client engagements, stakeholder relationships, and spearheaded the creation of Palantir's HyperAuto product as well as the opening of Palantir’s Korea market. Outside of Upsolve, Ka Ling plays rugby and does Crossfit. As a fun fact, she represented the Swiss rugby team. She claims to speak 6 languages, but none perfectly.

Serguei Balanovich, Co-founder & CTO of Upsolve AI, spent seven years at Palantir before co-founding Upsolve. Serguei pioneered early Supply Chain and Manufacturing commercial work and later productized this work into Palantir HyperAuto. Besides software, Serguei enjoys puzzles, board games, and teaching.

Together, we have over 15 years of experience in data engineering and analytics. We took Palantir's Hyperauto from inception to launch, scaled the product to serve more than 50 enterprise customers in less than 2.5 years, and generated eight figures in revenue. We started building Upsolve AI in October 2023 and have recently graduated from Y Combinator W24.

The Opportunity

As the senior full-stack engineer, you'll play a key role in shaping Upsolve AI's technical direction. You'll gain hands-on experience building our early product. Our customer-obsess culture means you'll interact directly with our customers and users. It's essential that you can develop a 0-1 product with exceptional UI/UX. As we grow, you will guide the architectural roadmap that lays the foundation for the Upsolve AI platform. The Opportunity

As a Senior Epidemiologist at PicnicHealth, you will work directly with our research partners and across internal teams to help further our mission of providing clinical insights to our partners, and improve health for all.  You will collaborate with our life sciences partners to design, conduct, interpret, and publish observational research studies using PicnicHealth’s RWD platform to advance understanding of and inform healthcare decision making across multiple condition areas. You will be the primary scientific point of contact both internally and externally for our customers and will ensure that the study is fit for purpose. The results of studies you lead may be presented at conferences, in peer-reviewed manuscripts, or in submissions to health authorities. You will also work directly with our biostatistics team to establish a fit for purpose study design, develop statistical analysis plans, and assist with analytical workflows to answer research questions. 

You will bring a strong epidemiology background in observational study design and methodology across a broad variety of use cases critical to life sciences evidence generation including natural history studies, registries, safety and effectiveness studies, and experience in submitting data to regulatory and other health authorities. You have a deep understanding of electronic health records, patient reported outcomes, administrative claims, and other administrative datasets and understand appropriate usage of complex analytic methods. 

As a Senior Epidemiologist, you will:

The role will involve creating relationships with payers and maintaining a detailed mapping of the US payer landscape and relationships between entities, such as TPAs and carve-outs.

Responsibilities

Analyzing Data: You will analyze data related to insurance eligibility data (270/271s), claims data, such as Electronic Remittance Advice (835s) and customer feedback to identify patterns, trends, and areas for improvement.

Data Visualization: You will use BI tools and SQL to build and monitor dashboards to report on our KPIs internally and externally, alert of any issues, and support in root cause analysis and process improvement.

Quality Assurance: You will implement quality control measures to maintain a high level of accuracy in eligibility and VoB processes against our internal KPIs.

Payer Relationships: You will create relationships with relevant stakeholders within payer organizations, and maintain a detailed mapping of the US payer landscape and relationships between related entities that may impact eligibility determinations and patients’ benefits data.

This Role

Streak is a CRM built on Gmail. We’re a remote-first team of 35 people across North America. We’re growing and very profitable, and we have customers that love our product. We’re currently in the goldilocks zone of having product market fit with real revenue but also a really flat hierarchy where you can ship fast.

We want to accelerate product delivery (there’s so much to build!) so we’re looking to bring on high agency and experienced frontend engineers to work on high impact product features / frontend infrastructure. We’re building a small, focused, high performing frontend engineering team that works directly with the CEO leading the product. What you’ll work on

Product engineers at Streak build user facing features across the full stack with a focus on frontend technologies. We work on two products, Streak and our **open source **InboxSDK (developer tool to build apps inside of Gmail, which of course we ourselves use).

You will own projects from start to finish and be responsible for shipping high quality software that users love. Here are some examples of interesting recent and upcoming technical challenges:

* High performance spreadsheets → our primary UI is a collaborative realtime spreadsheet. It needs to be highly performant (60 fps) and support millions of cells of varying types.

How we work

On the engineering team, we follow the ShapeUp methodology. We break projects into appetites  of either 2 or 6 weeks. Instead of an estimate for how long something will take, these appetites are a strict boundary on how much time we’ll spend on a feature. If it doesn’t ship in that time, we don’t automatically keep working on it. This encourages us to build something minimal but high quality first so that at least something of value ships to users. As an engineer, you have the flexibility to cut scope to ensure something ships. This allows us to  consistently ship features to users every 6 weeks and avoid marathon projects. If you want to follow along on one of these projects, I tweeted one whole feature end to end.

Between cycles, we generally cool down and work on bugs, refactors, etc. We also use that time to plan the next cycle. Features specs have strict boundaries but malleable internals. This encourages engineers to change the scope while building to ensure we deliver something by the cycle end. We stay away from very specific long term roadmaps. Instead we have a general direction we want to head in, but every 6 weeks, we’ll re-evaluate what’s up next.

We’re the perfect size for engineers who want to build stuff and ship without distraction. We prefer smaller teams of independent engineers that love their craft, over larger inefficient teams with management overhead.
